Verses that Encourage

Luke

Those who don't accept LGBTQ individuals will often quote the "clobber" passages from the Bible - 4 passages from the Old Testament and 3 passages in the New Testament. However, there are over 370 passages in the New Testament that are encouraging to all people, including the LGBTQ community.  How does that compare?  When wondering if those who identify as LGBTQ are loved by God, I encourage you to read and ponder these verses that apply to you and to your LGBTQ friends and family members.

Luke 6:22-23 Blessed are you when men hate you, and ostracize you, and cast insults at you, and spurn your name as evil, for the sake of the Son of Man. Be glad in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for in the same way their fathers used to treat the prophets.

Luke 6:27-29 But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. Whoever hits you on the cheek, offer him the other also; and whoever takes away your coat, do not withhold your shirt from him either.

Luke 6:31 And just as you want people to treat you, treat them in the same way.

Luke 6:32 And if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.

Luke 6:35 But love your enemies, and do good and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men.

Luke 6:36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

Luke 6:37 And do not judge and you will not be judged; and do not condemn, and you will not be condemned; pardon, and you will be pardoned.

Luke 6:38 Give, and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, they will pour into your lap. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.

Luke 6:41 And why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your eye?

Luke 6:44-45 For each tree is known by its own fruit.  For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they pick grapes from a briar bush.  The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart.

Luke 6:47-49 Everyone who comes to Me, and hears My words, and acts upon them, I will show you whom he is like; he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation upon the rock; and when a flood rose, the torrent burst against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well build. But the one who has heard, and has not acted accordingly, is like a man who built a house upon the ground without any foundation; and the torrent burst against it and immediately it collapsed, and the ruin of that house was great.

Luke 8:15 And the seed in the good soil, these are the ones who have heard the word in an honest and good heart, and hold it fast, and bear fruit with perseverance.

Luke 8:17-18 For nothing is hidden that shall not become evident, nor anything secret that shall not be known and come to light.  Therefore take care how you listen, for whoever has, to him shall more be given; and whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has shall be taken away from him.

Luke 9:48 and said to them,”whoever receives this child in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me receives Him who sent Me; for he who is least among you, this is the one who is great.”

Luke 10:9-10 “And I say to you, ask, and it shall be given to you, seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it shall be opened.”

Luke 10:28 But he said, “On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the word of God, and observe it.”

Luke 11:34-36 “The lamp of your body is your eye; when your eye is clear, your whole body also is full of light; but when it is bad, your body also is full of darkness. Then watch out that the light in you may not be darkness. If therefore your whole body is full of light, with no dark part in it, it shall be wholly illumined, as when the lamp illumines you with its rays.”

Luke 11:40-41 You foolish ones, did not He who made the outside make the inside also? But give that which is within as charity and then all things are clean for you.

Luke 12:6 Are not five sparrows sold for two cents? And yet not one of them is forgotten before God.

Luke 12:7 Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear; you are of more value than many sparrows.

Luke 12:22-23 And he said to His disciples, “for this reason I say to you, do not be anxious for your life, as to what you shall eat; nor for your body, as to what you shall put on. For life is more than food, and the body than clothing.”

Luke 12:24-26 Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap; and they have no storeroom nor barn; and yet God feeds them; how much more valuable you are than the birds? And which of you by being anxious can add a single cubit to his life’s span? If then you cannot do even a very little thing, why are you anxious about other matters?

Luke 12:27-28 Consider the lilies, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin; but I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory did not clothe himself like one of these. But if God so arrays the grass in the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will He clothe you, O men of little faith.”

Luke 12:29-31 And do not seek what you shall eat, and what you shall drink, and do not keep worrying. For all these things the nations of the world eagerly seek; but your Father knows that you need these things.  But seek for His kingdom, and these things shall be added to you.”

Luke 15:22-24 But the father said to his slaves, “Quickly bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet; and bring the fattened calf, kill it, and let us eat and be merry; for this son of mine was dead, and has come to life again; he was lost, and has been found.” And they began to be merry.

Luke 15:31-32 And he said to him, “My child, you have always been with me, and all that is mine is yours. But we had to be merry and rejoice, for this brother of yours was dead and has begun to live, and was lost and has been found.”

Luke 16:10  He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much.

Luke 18:13-14 But the tax-gatherer, standing some distance away, was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heave, but was beating his breast, saying:”God, be merciful to me, the sinner!” I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for everyone who exalts himself shall be humbled, but he who humbles himself shall be exalted.”
